"Alright, Blue. One move at a time."

[break]The little oshawott gave him a little nod and a salute, before turning back to face the fallen tree. He wiggled his tail, drawing his shell off of his chest, before bringing it down in the clean arc of a RAZOR SHELL. The tree, damaged a bit by local fire types, crumpled quickly under the effects of the water-type move. Blue let out a small trill of delight, turning back to face Riley with a proud grin on his face. "Nice work, bud," Riley replied, preventing himself from rolling his eyes.

[break]Blue, a particularly small oshawott, was a recent addition to his "team". Recently, Riley had met up with Sierra for some more freelance work, and she'd introduced him to her rowdy little oshawott. Inexplicably, the little guy had attached to him almost immediately, and so a trade was proposed between them. Riley handed over the cranidos he'd caught on a whim, and received Blue in return.

[break]The little guy was, as it turned out, quite a fan of battling. While battling wasn't exactly Riley's main hobby, he couldn't help but indulge the little guy. Together, they'd gone to Route 112, just east of Lavaridge Town and Mt. Chimney. Riley didn't know much about training pokémon—Espeon and Umbreon had basically trained themselves—but he figured the area would be good for training a water type. If they ran into any aggressive wilds, there was a high likelihood they'd be fire-type, meaning Blue might even get a chance to try taking one down.

Training continued for a few more minutes, with Blue becoming more and more confident each time he slashed up one of the nearby trees. Of course, each and every time, the oshawott would turn back and smile a proud smile back at Riley, waiting for praise. And god, he just couldn't keep himself from giving it. Riley would never admit to being such a softie, but something about seeing an adorable little oshawott trying his hardest was enough to crack his disaffected demeanor.

[break][break]"Nice work, Blue," Riley said, smiling. "Now let's try your AQUA JET.

[break][break]As Blue started to dash headfirst into some nearby rocks, a torrent of water trailing behind him, Riley noted movement in the environment. Squinting, he caught sight of a clobbopus, wandering around near some of the dead trees they had destroyed. "Huh," Riley said, watching the clobbopus hesitate to approach him, before turning around and waddling away. Weren't... those supposed to live in water? What was one doing so far out here?

"Once again, nice work, Blue."
[break][break]Riley watched as the eager oshawott smashed another of the burnt logs to pieces, riding atop a tiny wave before smashing his head into the brittle wood. A little dizzy, the oshawott turned back and gave him a big thumbs up, stumbling a little bit as he did so. Riley couldn't help but chuckle a bit. Blue had an energy that was hard to match, but Riley couldn't deny that the little guy was easy to get attached to. He'd have to thank Sierra later.
[break][break]Riley paused, looking around. They'd destroyed most of the logs around here now, in a way that almost made him feel bad. "Who is even burning up these logs, anyway?" There was no way this was a natural thing caused by Mt. Chimney, right? Blue looked up at him, before giving a long, disinterested shrug.
[break][break]Right on cue, a perfect suspect came bumbling out from behind some rocks. A tepig! "Shit," Riley muttered, admiring the specimen. Tepig were pretty rare in the wild. The tepig took a long look at the two of them, a snort coming out of its nostrils. Then it charged!
[break][break]"Go, Blue!" Riley called, taking a step back. The oshawott nodded, rushing to meet the tepig with his AQUA JET. The wave crashed into the tepig, which let out a loud squeal and stumbled backwards. Blue capitalized on the advantage and leapt towards the tepig, scalchop brandished. He used RAZOR SHELL, bringing it down upon the Tepig, who collapsed into a heap.
[break][break]Riley paused. Should he...? Eh, fuck it. Reaching into his bag, Riley pulled out a spare pokéball, before tossing it in the direction of the collapsed tepig, who disappeared into a glow of red light. Blue rushed back to him, arms waving. Smiling, Riley extended a hand, and Blue leapt up, giving him a high-five.
[break][break]"Thanks for the assist, Blue. You're gonna make a pretty good fighter." With that, the two of them headed off back to town.
